Dr. James Sander is a Board Certified Urologist at UT Health RGV. Dr. Sander graduated with Honors and earned his Bachelor (B.A.) in Biology at The University of Texas. He later received his Medical Degree (M.D.) and took a General Surgery Internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He then completed his Urology Residency Training at Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine. After completion of his residency, Dr. Sander continued his medical training and completed his Pediatric Urology Fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital in 2014.
Dr. Sander is Board Certified by the American Board of Urology and has a special interest in complex hypospadias reconstruction, treating urologic cancer, laparoscopic & robotic minimally invasive surgery.
As a urologist at UT Health RGV, Dr. Sander diagnoses and provides urology treatment to adults and children with malignant and benign disorders. Patient care services and treatments are included for elevated PSA, prostate cancer, blood in the urine, renal mass/renal tumors, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, and bladder control along with benign disorders such as kidney stones, urinary retention, hydronephrosis, and more. His pediatric urology services include hypospadias, ureteral reflux, hydronephrosis, posterior urethral valves, UPJ obstruction, undescended testis, and ureterocele. Dr. Sander is dedicated to providing patients of all ages with the highest quality of compassion, and he has extensive experience in urology diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
Dr. Sander has previously served as Director of Pediatric Urology and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas. He also served as an Assistant Professor for The Department of Urology at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas. Dr. James Sander joined The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine in 2017 and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys golfing, tennis, and sailing.
