Biography

Dr. Joseph Anthony “Tony” Ogburn is a Board Certified Obstetrics/Gynecology specialist at UT Health RGV. Dr. Ogburn earned his Medical Degree (M.D.) from The University of Florida in 1986 and later completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of California - Irvine in 1990. After completing his residency training, Dr. Ogburn obtained six years of valuable clinical experience working for the Indian Health Service on the Navajo Indian Reservation as a specialist in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. He then spent 18 years at the University of New Mexico in a busy, diverse academic clinical practice.

Dr. Tony Ogburn, MD, is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. As an Obstetrician-Gynecologist at UT Health RGV, Dr. Ogburn is dedicated to providing outstanding and compassionate care to all of his patients. Dr. Ogburn diagnosis and provides advanced treatment in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), women’s preventive health care, gynecology services and pregnancy care, menopausal counseling, infertility evaluation and more.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ogburn has advocated for improved access and health care for underserved populations and has published over 50 scientific articles with an emphasis on family planning, educational evaluation and curriculum development to improve health care access to underserved communities. He serves on a number of national committees including an oral board examiner for the American Board of Ob/Gyn and the President-elect of the Society of Academic Specialists in General Ob/Gyn.

Dr. Ogburn joined The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine Faculty in 2015, and he currently serves as a Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
