Biography

Dr. Jimmy G. Gonzales, MD, CAQSM, is a board certified Family Medicine Doctor at UT Health RGV. Focused on providing quality medical care to patients, Dr. Gonzales delivers the highest level of care in family medicine to improve the health and lives of children and adults in the RGV.

As a Family Medicine and Sports Medicine physician at UT Health RGV, Dr. Gonzales offers diagnostic and treatment in family medicine for children and adults, preventive care, health screenings, immunizations, chronic care (diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, arthritis), sports medicine and musculoskeletal care, men’s health, women’s health, and more. Dr. Gonzales provides a personalized care plan along with a variety of resources to ensure patients can make the most educated choice about their health care.

Dr. Jimmy Gonzales is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with special qualifications in Sports Medicine and is also a member of several prestigious professional societies, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He also serves as a team physician for UTRGV Athletics, RGV FC Toros, and the NBA G-League RGV Vipers.

Dr. Gonzales received his Medical Degree (M.D.) from UT Southwestern Medical School in 2010 and completed his Preliminary Surgery Internship at The University of Texas Southwestern in 2011.  Dr. Gonzales then went on to complete his Family Medicine Residency training at Texas A&M University - Scott & White Health Science Center in 2014.  After completion of his residency, Dr. Gonzales continued his medical education and completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Texas Tech Health Science Center in 2015. During his fellowship, Dr. Gonzales delivered a podium presentation for a case study at the national meeting for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Jimmy Gonzales joined the UTRGV School of Medicine Faculty in 2015 and is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine and is the Director of Sports Medicine for the UTRGV Family Medicine Residency Program. Additionally, he serves as the Program Director of the UTRGV Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program, educating and training the next generation of leaders in medicine, research, and patient care.
