Michael Sander, MD, BCOS, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon at UT Health RGV. As a native of Weslaco, Texas, Dr. Sander understands the importance of using the latest advancements in orthopedic medicine to decrease bone and joint pain for patients in the Rio Grande Valley. He strives to help patients live a healthier, more fulfilling life.
As an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Sander offers a wide range of treatments, including replacement surgery for hips, knees, and shoulders, bone fracture surgery, ACL reconstruction, and rotator cuff repair. Using innovative techniques such as platelet-rich plasma injections, Dr. Sander can effectively treat conditions like arthritis and tendon injuries with long-term success.
Dr. Sander also specializes in orthopedic sports medicine, treating a variety of sports-related injuries in athletes from all performance levels.
At UT Health RGV, Dr. Sander and his expert team are dedicated to providing outstanding, compassionate care before and after surgery.
Dr. Sander graduated with his bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin. He went on to receive his medical degree (MD) with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. For his Orthopedic Surgery residency, Dr. Sander attended The University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. He then completed his Orthopedic Sports fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Sander is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Sander additionally joined The UTRGV School of Medicine faculty and currently serves as Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, educating and training the next generation of leaders in medicine, research, and patient care.
