Dr. Aamir N. Ahmad is a board-certified Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon at UT Health RGV who specializes in diagnosing, treating, and surgically reparing conditions of the bones, joints, and muscles. Dr. Ahmad also serves as an assistant professor for Orthopedic Surgery at the UTRGV School of Medicine and is the head physician for UTRGV Athletics.

Dr. Ahmad completed his undergraduate education and medical education from The University of Arizona. He then completed his five-year orthopedic surgery residency training at The University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, where he served as a team physician for Belen High school and the New Mexico Lobos. He then completed an additional year of fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder/elbow surgery at The University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, where he served as a team physician for the USC Trojans and the Los Angeles Kings (NHL).

Dr. Ahmad sees patients with shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle sports medicine injuries and provides both non-operative and surgical treatment options. He is currently the only doctor in the Rio Grande Valley who performs hip arthroscopy (a minimally invasive surgical procedure) and Tommy John Surgery (an elbow repair surgery).

Dr. Ahmad comes from a strong medical background, his father is a professor and the director of the immunity and infection block at the University of Arizona COM, and has thus instilled a strong passion for teaching, education, and research in him and his siblings. Dr. Ahmad enjoys mentoring and coaching the next generation of students, residents, and fellows. He also has a strong passion for clinical and basic science research, focusing his research on surgical outcomes and return to sports/work.

Dr. Ahmad believes in a thoughtful, empathetic team approach to medical and surgical care. His motto both in the clinic and the operating theatre is: “Expertise, Precision, Compassion, Results.”
