Biography

Alvaro Orue Quintana, MD, is a board-certified Family Medicine Doctor at UT Health RGV. He provides comprehensive outpatient care with a focus on chronic disease management, preventive medicine, and addressing social determinants of health in underserved communities across the Rio Grande Valley.

Dr. Orue completed his residency training at the UTRGV Family Medicine Residency Program at Knapp Medical Center, where he developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care and academic medicine. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Americana (UAM) before pursuing graduate medical training in the United States. His experiences across diverse health systems shaped his commitment to health equity and community engagement.

He is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. His academic interests include quality improvement, health equity, and the thoughtful integration of innovative tools, such as AI-assisted clinical workflows, into primary care practice.

Dr. Orue participated in clinical research and scholarly initiatives during his residency, with a focus on improving outcomes in vulnerable populations. His work included projects on food insecurity screening, frailty assessment in older adults, and patient-centered quality improvement within primary care settings. These experiences strengthened his commitment to addressing health disparities and continue to inform his clinical and teaching approach today. He is excited to serve the community of the Rio Grande Valley by delivering high-quality, value-based care and is passionate about working alongside residents and medical students to continuously improve patient care across the region.
