Biography

Dr. Cynthia Garza, PsyD, is a board-certified Clinical Psychologist at UT Health RGV. With years of training and experience in her field, she is dedicated to providing her patients with the highest level of compassionate, evidence-based care.

Dr. Garza received a bachelor’s and master's degree in psychology from the University of Texas San Antonio in 2008 and 2011. She received her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2018. She completed her clinical internship at Norton Sound Health Corporation Behavioral Health Services in 2018. Additionally, she completed her fellowship in primary care/health psychology at the Norton Sound Health Corporation Behavioral Health Services in 2019.

As a Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Garza has served patients of all ages in primary care, community mental health, college counseling, emergency response, and inpatient settings. She is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and treatment for Selective Mutism. She received diagnostic training to conduct evaluations for Autism, developmental disabilities, and learning disorders. Dr. Garza has experience providing trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral reinforcement and modification planning, suicide prevention and counseling, motivational interviewing, substance abuse counseling, grief counseling, and couples and family therapies.

Dr. Cynthia Garza is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners and specializes in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among children and adolescents.

Additionally, Dr. Garza is a member of several notable organizations, such as the American Psychological Association, Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and the National Latinx Psychology Association.

Dr. Garza currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the UTRGV School of Medicine, educating and training the next generation of physicians. In her clinic work, Dr. Garza serves as a clinical supervisor and provides behavioral health services at the Institute of Neurosciences.
