Biography

Dr. Cynthia Garza, PsyD, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist at the UT Health RGV. With advanced training and experience, Dr. Garza uses evidenced-based care, the latest techniques and advancements in clinical psychology to provide patients with the highest level of care.

Dr. Garza graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas San Antonio in 2008 and received her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2018. She completed her clinical internship at Norton Sound Health Corporation Behavioral Health Services in 2018. Additionally, she completed her fellowship in Primary Care/Health Psychology at the Norton Sound Health Corporation Behavioral Health Services in 2019.

As a Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Garza serves patients of all ages in primary care, community mental health, college counseling, emergency response and inpatient settings. She is certified in testing for Autism and is trained to conduct evaluations for developmental disabilities and learning disorders. Dr. Garza has experience providing trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral reinforcement and modification planning, suicide prevention and counseling, motivational interviewing, substance abuse counseling, grief counseling, couples and family therapies.

Dr. Cynthia Garza is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners and specializes in developmental disabilities and learning disorders.

Additionally, Dr. Garza is a member of several notable organizations such as the American Psychological Association, Collaborative Family Healthcare Association, and the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Garza currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the UTRGV School of Medicine, educating and training the next generation of physicians. In her clinic work, Dr. Garza serves as a Behavioral Health Consultant and works alongside primary care physicians to provide patients whole-person care.
