Biography

Dr. Daniel Albo, MD, is a nationally and internationally renowned Surgical Oncologist (Cancer Surgeon) at UT Health RGV. With over 21 years of advanced medical experience, Dr. Albo uses the latest technology and medical advancements in surgical oncology to provide patients in the RGV with the highest level of cancer care.  

Dr. Albo graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the Zorilla de San Martin College in 1983 and received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Pathobiology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann in 1998. He then received his Medical Degree (M.D.) from the University of the Republic Medical School in 1991. Dr. Albo completed his Residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann in 2000. Additionally, he completed his Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 2002.  

As an Oncologist Surgeon at UT Health RGV, Dr. Albo diagnoses and provides services and procedures in colorectal surgeries, including laparoscopic colectomy and laparoscopic rectal surgery. Dr. Albo also provides surgical oncology (cancer surgery) services for gastric cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, sarcomas, melanoma, and breast cancer. His minimally invasive surgeries include procedures in laparoscopic gastrectomy, laparoscopic liver surgery, laparoscopic microwave ablation for liver tumors and more. 

Additionally, Dr. Albo is a member of several notable organizations such as the American Surgical Association, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society of University Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, International Society of Surgery / Société Internationale de Chirurgie (ISS/SIC), International Society of Digestive Surgery, American Surgical Association. 

Dr. Albo joined the UTRGV School of Medicine Faculty in March 2021 and currently serves as the Department Chair and Professor in the Department of Surgery.
