Biography

Dr. Daniela Hernandez is a board-certified Internal Medicine Doctor and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the UTRGV School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey in 2016. After graduating, she worked for 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins, where she collaborated on the development of new targeted therapies for leukemia and learned about translational research. She then moved to the Rio Grande Valley to pursue her internal medicine residency with UTRGV.

Dr. Hernandez has always been passionate about helping the Hispanic community. During her third year of residency, she was selected as Chief Resident. She decided to join the UTRGV faculty to continue her medical career, close to her family.

Dr. Hernandez now focuses on adult complex and preventive care in the outpatient setting. She has her own faculty practice with UTRGV and enjoys teaching residents and medical students about outpatient medicine. In July 2025, Dr. Hernandez became Program Director for the UTRGV-HCA Internal Medicine program. She is interested in research projects that can improve healthcare in the RGV.

While living in the RGV, Dr. Hernandez’s family has grown. She loves spending time with her four children and enjoys visiting South Padre Island.
