Biography

Dr. Evan D. Perez is a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician at UT Health RGV. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and through the ABFM in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Perez provides compassionate and thorough non-surgical care for activity-related conditions in both children and adults, including athletes, non-athletes, “weekend warriors,” and those with work-related injuries. With a personalized care plan and a range of resources, Dr. Perez empowers patients to make well-informed decisions about their health.

Additionally, Dr. Perez is a member of several notable organizations, such as the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

Dr. Perez graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas-Pan America (UTPA) in 2009. Dr. Perez received his Medical Degree (MD) from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2014, and he completed his Family Medicine Residency training at the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Houston, Texas. After his residency, he continued his medical education and completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Texas Tech University Health Science Center El Paso in 2018.

Dr. Perez joined the UTRGV School of Medicine Faculty in 2018 and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine. He serves as a team physician for UTRGV Athletics, RGV FC Toros, and the NBA G-League RGV Vipers. He has also covered high school football, boxing, mixed martial arts, and mass participation events such as marathons and triathlons.

Dr. Perez is involved in teaching at the UTRGV School of Medicine and the UT Health RGV Knapp Family Medicine Residency Program.

He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 dogs and likes to stay active by being involved in an adult softball league.

Dr. Perez is excited to return to the Valley and fulfill his dreams in transforming the quality of health care for patients of all ages while educating and training the next generation of leaders in medicine, research, and patient care.
