Dr. Everardo Cobos is a board-certified internist, hematologist, and medical oncologist at UT Health RGV. He additionally serves as Professor of Medicine, Chair for the Department of Internal Medicine, and the Cancer Center Line Director at the UTRGV School of Medicine.
Dr. Cobos previously served in various roles including as a health sciences clinical professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the chair of medicine at Kern Medical, a tenured professor of medicine and director of the hematology-oncology division, and the dean of oncology programs at the Texas Tech School of Medicine.
Additionally, Dr. Cobos was the University Medical Center Southwest Cancer Center Director in Lubbock, Texas.
Dr. Cobos received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas El Paso, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his internship at Texas Tech El Paso and his internal medicine residency and hematology-oncology fellowship at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.
Dr. Cobos practices both hematology and oncology and is a fellow in the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and American Federation for Medical Research.
Dr. Cobos works collaboratively with other UTRGV School of Medicine colleagues and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the establishment of the up-and-coming UT Health RGV Cancer and Surgery Center.
Dr. Cobos and the team of cancer clinicians and researchers from the UTRGV School of Medicine and UT Health RGV will develop innovative clinical trials and provide state-of-the-art cancer care to help address an underserved healthcare need in the region.
The team at the UT Health RGV Cancer and Surgery Center, under the direction of Dr. Cobos, will also provide unprecedented education and research opportunities for physicians and students.
Dr. Cobos has decades of experience in clinical medicine, medical education, and clinical research. He has an active medical practice caring for patients with cancer and blood diseases.
