Biography

Guadalupe Alejandra Flores, OD, graduated with a B.S. in Biology from St. Edward’s University and received her Doctor of Optometry degree through the University of Houston College of Optometry.

With over 24 years of experience, she has worked in all types of practices including private and corporate, as well as on a hospital campus. Before joining UTRGV SOM and UT Health RGV, she practiced in Northeast Pennsylvania, Scranton/The Poconos. While there, she served a truly diverse community that included many underprivileged groups. While working here in the Rio Grande Valley, she has served disadvantaged patients through SEE International and Operation Lone Star. While she was an optometry student, she also had the privilege to serve the poor in Nicaragua on a medical mission.

Dr. Flores is board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She is skilled in treating dry eye disease, red eye, foreign body removal, glaucoma, and managing retinopathy due to diabetes and hypertension.

She provides comprehensive eye care for all ages and is bilingual in Spanish and English. She helps manage patients with systemic diseases that may affect their ocular health, especially hypertension, diabetes, and auto-immune disorders. She counsels patients and makes recommendations about their health and well-being. Dr. Flores hopes to continue to make a positive difference in her patients’ lives by serving the people of the Rio Grande Valley, especially through community outreach. Her goal has always been to ensure that eye illnesses are identified as early as possible and to educate the community about the importance of annual eye exams.
