Dr. Jorge Casquero Leon is as a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist at UT Health RGV and is dedicated to offering the highest quality of patient care for women in the Rio Grande Valley.
Dr. Casquero Leon has had a diverse and distinguished medical career. He earned his medical degree from Cayetano Heredia University, one of Peru’s most prestigious medical schools, and completed his residency at Jamaica Hospital in New York. During his residency, he gained valuable experience working with a diverse population, dealing with various cultures, socioeconomic statuses, and diseases. His honors, including the Excellence in Obstetrics and the Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery Awards, highlight his expertise and dedication to the field. After his residency, he joined a private practice in Connecticut, collaborating with OBGYN residents from Danbury Hospital and medical students from the University of Vermont.
In 2021, Dr. Casquero Leon joined the UTRGV School of Medicine faculty, where he has been deeply committed to teaching and advancing medical education. He became a member and mentor of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), and the Society for Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology (SASGOG). He has received several awards, including Student Teacher of the Year, Resident Teacher of the Year, and the Council for Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) National Faculty Award twice. In 2022, he became the Director of the Surgical Curriculum, overseeing multiple workshop simulations and programs, including the DaVinci Robotic Certification and Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) programs. In 2023, he was appointed Associate Program Director for the OBGYN residency program, leading the academic curricula and supervising the high-risk OB and GYN perioperative clinics.
Since 2024, Dr. Casquero Leon has served as the Division Chief for Women’s and Children’s Health. He remains dedicated to shaping the future of medical education and providing the highest quality of healthcare.
