Biography

Dr. Jose Campo Maldonado is an Internal Medicine Doctor at UT Health RGV. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. With over 15 years of experience providing advanced medical care to patients, Dr. Campo Maldonado understands the importance of using the latest advancements in infectious diseases medicine to improve the quality of health care for patients in the RGV.

As an Internal Medicine physician at UT Health RGV, Dr. Campo Maldonado is dedicated to providing outstanding and compassionate care to all his patients. Dr. Campo Maldonado diagnoses and treats general infectious diseases, HIV and sexually transmitted diseases and Hepatitis C. 

Using a patient-centered approach, Dr. Campo Maldonado provides a personalized patient care plan along with a variety of resources to ensure patients can make the most educated choice about their health care. He is also a member of several prestigious organizations such as the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Campo Maldonado received his Medical Degree (M.D.) and completed his Family Medicine Residency training at Universidad del Valle School of Medicine in Cali, Colombia. After completion of his residency training, he continued his medical education and completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2010. Dr. Campo Maldonado then completed both his Infectious Diseases and Advanced Infectious Diseases Fellowship followed by a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) at The University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dr. Campo Maldonado joined the UTRGV School of Medicine Faculty in 2017 and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, educating and training the next generation of leaders in medicine, research, and patient care.

Outside medicine, Dr. Campo Maldonado enjoys participating in marathons and cycling events. He has completed the Fiesta Wildflower 100-mile Bicycle Ride in 2017, and in 2009, he won 1st place for the Lone Star Pacesetters Half Marathon.
