Biography

Lucia Nguyen, MD, is a board-certified Surgeon at UT Health RGV. She specializes in laparoscopic surgeries and currently sees patients at UT Health RGV Surgery & Women’s Specialty in Harlingen, Texas. 

Dr. Lucia Nguyen received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin and earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. She then completed a general surgery residency at Baylor Scott & White Memorial Health Center in Temple, Texas.

Dr. Nguyen left the hill countryside of Texas for the saguaro lands of Arizona for fellowship training in trauma surgery, acute care surgery, and surgical critical care at the 2-year AAST-accredited program at the University of Arizona. 

Dr. Nguyen’s surgical interests include quality improvement, outcomes research, survivorship, and surgical innovation. Her clinical interests include traumatic chest wall and abdominal wall reconstruction, video-assisted thoracic surgery, biliary disease, and perforated diverticulitis.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Nguyen is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the UTRGV School of Medicine. She is passionate about mentoring future physicians and advancing surgical education in the Rio Grande Valley.
