Biography

Dr. Tara Phillipp Vierra received her medical degree with Honors from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in 2011. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Excellence in Emergency Medicine Award and the Preceptorship Program Honors Award. She graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University in 2006, receiving the Academic Excellence Award and the Patricia A. Ward Award for Medicine. She completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency from 2011-2014 at the University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center in the Texas Medical Center, training at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, UT Houston Pediatric Specialty Clinics, and MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Vierra has worked as a Pediatric Hospitalist since 2014 in the upper and lower Rio Grande Valley. She received her ABP General Pediatrics board certification in 2014 and her ABP Subspecialty board certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine in 2022. She also maintains active Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.

Dr. Vierra is passionate about educating medical students and residents to become the future providers of our healthcare community. From 2015-2018, she served as an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics for third-year medical students at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio’s School of Medicine. She was also an Adjunct Inpatient Pediatric faculty member for the Valley Baptist Family Practice Residency Program from 2015 to 2018, receiving the Most Outstanding Teaching Faculty Award from their residents in 2018.

Dr. Vierra joined the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine as Adjunct Faculty in 2018 and became a full-time Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in 2020. She continues to serve as a pediatric hospitalist, providing high-quality, evidence-based medical care to the children of the Rio Grande Valley. Additionally, she is a Career Advisor for UTRGV-SOM medical students and the Pediatric Associate Clerkship Director.
