Biography

Dr. Wayne Wilson is a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OBGYN) at UT Health RGV with over 40 years of experience in the field.

Dr. Wilson earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1980. From 1980 to 1984, he completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

In 1984, Dr. Wilson moved to the Rio Grande Valley and joined Landrum-Chester OB-GYN Associates in McAllen, where he practiced for nearly 40 years. Over that time, he estimates he delivered more than 10,000 babies.

Dr. Wilson began his teaching career in 2008, instructing third-year medical students from San Antonio who were attending the Regional Academic Health Center in Harlingen, Texas. This experience ignited his passion for teaching. When the UTRGV School of Medicine was established in 2016, he was invited to join the faculty. He began teaching first, second, and third-year medical students. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

After retiring from his private practice in 2023, Dr. Wilson now dedicates all his time to teaching and continues to see patients at the UT Health RGV Women's and Children's Clinic in Edinburg, Texas.
