Biography

Wayne B. Wilson, M.D., has been an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine since its inception in 2016. Prior to this, he served as an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 2008 to 2016.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he received his M.D. degree in 1980. He then completed his residency training at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, finishing in 1984.

In 1984, he moved to the Rio Grande Valley and joined Landrum-Chester OB-Gyn Associates in McAllen, Texas, where he practiced for nearly 40 years. Over that time, he estimates he has delivered more than 10,000 babies.

Dr. Wilson began his teaching career in 2008, instructing third-year medical students from San Antonio who were attending the Regional Academic Health Center in Harlingen, Texas. This experience ignited his passion for teaching. When the UTRGV School of Medicine was established in 2016, he was invited to join the faculty. He began teaching first, second, and third-year medical students. Currently, he is the Associate Clerkship Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship for third-year medical students and the Director of the Clinical Skills course for second-year medical students.

After retiring from his private practice in 2023, he now dedicates all his time to teaching and continues to see patients at the UT Health RGV Women's and Children's Clinic in Edinburg, Texas.
